The roads should be in the same shape as they are in summer. Hope this will help.Yes by all means go!! Banff and Jasper are year-round tourist destinations, and most attractions are open until at least mid-October (Canadian Thanksgiving). See my review of the Banff Y Mountain Lodge on tripadvisor where I have pictures posted of the two extreme weather conditions in Banff area.

There are a variety of hiking trails from easy to difficult. Banff is one of the most beautiful mountian areas you will ever see. Nothing will ruin your vacation more than coming to mountain climate without the proper clothing for sudden weather changes. In mountain climates it is good to come prepared for drastic changes in the weather. Layering will keep you warm and take up less room in your suitcase instead of bringing big bulky winter jackets. Also bring a pair of long underwear to go under pants. Banff can get alot of rain as well so I highly recommend a rain jacket with a hood and bring a light fleece jacket to layer underneath in case of drastic weather change to cold weather like we experienced. Gloves and earmuffs or a light skull cap are good to bring too. A rain jacket with a warm fleece jacket underneath makes for a good warm winter wear and both separately make for great warmer weather wear when it is just cool weather. We always bring clothes for layering - a couple of t-shirts, a couple of long sleeve shirts and a couple of pairs of pants. Then an early season snow storm hit the area and it was very cold, in the 20's during the remaining days of our vacation. The first four days were partly cloudy to sunny with low 70's (Farenhiet, sorry don't know the Celsius equivalent) very pleasant weather, cold at night probably in the low 50's. We experienced two extreme weather conditions while we were there for one week. Our last trip to Banff National Park was back in mid September 2006. Hi Jax49, Me and my husband have gone to Banff 4 times. In the mountains (and even in Calgary), it is possible to have snow fall in any month of the year however, it won't last, and you won't have much more than a light dusting. It is also *possible* to have snow, but it is very unlikely, and any snowfall will melt away in 24 hours or less. It is quite possible to still have summer-like weather in the Rockies in mid-September. You would, however, be wise to either bring a warm fleece jacket or (if you'd rather not waste the luggage space), include a contingency fund so that you can buy a warm jacket IF the weather warrants it. You will find detailed climate information for Jasper at the website of Environment Canada, which operates Canada's official weather service type JASPER in the box labelled "location":Īs you can see, it has never been below -7☌ in Jasper in September, and the typical September overnight low is 3☌, with the temperature rising to 17☌ during the day. This doesn't specifically address your concerns about September, however.

You will also find the information on Clothing answers a lot of your questions: You will want to read about Weather and When to Go here: The Banff National Park Inside Pages have information designed for travellers throughout the Canadian Rockies, including Jasper.
